Kedai Makanan Nam Heong is a charming coffee shop located in the heart of Ipoh's Old Town, renowned for its traditional flavors and vibrant atmosphere. The establishment is famous for its delightful egg tarts, which are freshly baked and served warm, striking a perfect balance between sweetness and generous filling. However, be prepared for queues as this dish draws many eager patrons.
Customer favorites include the char kuey teow, praised for its wok-fried excellence, and the rich, flavorful prawn mee, featuring a broth brimming with prawns. However, not all offerings hit the mark; dishes like the chee cheong fun may not appeal to everyone, reflecting a broader spectrum of tastes. The famed Ipoh white coffee stands out as well, providing a comforting, if standard, experience for coffee enthusiasts.
With a pricing range of RM6 to RM9, patrons find the portions just right, and the ability to customize the sweetness of drinks is a thoughtful touch. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, Kedai Makanan Nam Heong is a must-visit destination for an authentic taste of Ipoh's culinary heritage.

The egg tarts receive frequent praise for their freshness and generous fillings, though opinions vary on sweetness and aroma. The iconic Ipoh white coffee is recognized for its rich and potent flavor, though some find it fairly standard. Signature dishes like char kuey teow and hor fun soup are well-appreciated, while dim sum selections garner moderate approval. Common feedback points to limited seating and long queues, reflecting the venue’s popularity. Overall, the establishment is valued for its authentic atmosphere and solid traditional fare, despite minor inconsistencies in certain menu items.
Egg tart is good & fresh, not too sweet and generous amount of fillings, be prepared for queue to buy. Char kuey teow is good. Hor fun soup is good too even though portion is a bit small. Chee cheong fun is not to my liking. Coffee is normal for Ipoh standards
The coffee, is coffee, no white coffee i order ice coffee and white coffee ais, the waiter told me only got 1 type ice coffee . The egg tart is not sweet add the filling is quite full. Not the best fragrance egg tart but its fresh and warm when its served. (Not sure if i m lucky) I like the “sio bao” . Limited serving table. Ao be prepare to queue.
Dropped by Nam Heong Coffee Shop in Ipoh's Old Town, a beloved local institution that's been serving up traditional favorites for ages. I tried their famous Ipoh white coffee, which was smooth and comforting, though the taste was pretty standard for my palate. The dim sum spread was decent, but nothing that blew me away - just solid, familiar options. On the other hand, their char koay teow was a real highlight - wok-fried to perfection and packed with flavor. And the prawn mee? Wow! The broth was rich and intense, loaded with prawn goodness, and the prawns themselves were fresh. All in all, a satisfying meal at a classic spot that's definitely worth a visit.
Atmospheric and old school. They serve the traditional white coffee and charcoal toasted white bread. The coffee is excellent and thick - well made and potent! However, the bread was a disappointment - not enough charcoal taste and insufficient kaya and butter. Overall experience in the hot coffee shop was very “Ipoh” Recommended, but will not return
Have to wait in queue to be seated. The food is good and nice. Not too salty or sweet. If you feel the drinks are too sweet you can ask them to fix the drinks for you. Eg coffee too sweet, they will remove a bit and refill with unsweetened coffee. Food portion per serving is just nice. The cost is around RM6 to RM9 mostly.
Good old school vibe, located at old town Ipoh, this is the original shop for Ipoh white coffee. The coffee here is superb! The char koey teow here is a must try… one of the best i have tried! ⭐. Staffs and vendors here are very friendly. Food is served fast despite large crowds all the time. Highly recommended!! Well done and keep it up..! ⭐
